Investigating Cue

Hi,
As mentioned in the previous blog, Cue is a very important factor in this game. A good cue that fits well in your hands can give you immense leverage for playing a great shot. Cue sticks vary in weights and lengths. The heavier ones are good for cracking up a frame and scattering the balls all over and one of them might end up potted, giving u the continuation. The one in the picture is the heaviest one available to us in our office.

Personally i prefer a moderate one for playing almost all shots. The other point to consider is holding a cue. There are other ways of holding a cue apart from "by the book" style. The next picture show a bit different way of hoding, it's all about our comfort.

Pool Diving

It's been a long time since my token blog stated the arrival of blog flood which, never happened. I was trying hard to get it done but u know it's tiring playing all the time. Anyway my best friend Gurudutt guruduttmallapur.blogspot.com suggested about writing my experience about ways to play and improve pool.

The first and foremost important factor is the Cue, using which a player strikes the cue ball (white without a number and spotted sometimes). Cues come in different lengths, pick one that suits u and helps in playing a better shot. While picking a cue for playing notice a few things such as the straightness and tip of the cue. Straightness can be tested by placing the cue on the table and rolling it. As for the tip make sure it's not worn out.

Once the cue part is over there are four variables which are kept in consideration while playing a shot.

1. Stance.
2. Grip.
3. Bridge.
4. Shot.

Stance:
The way u place u'r self such that a shot can be played comfortably. starting with legs, there r two ways of approaching a shot. Legs spread apart just enough to give the right balance for playing a good shot. The other way is putting u'r left leg forward and both legs a little apart.

The Grip:
The official way of holding a Cue is to hold it like u'r about to hit someone but i've seen people choosing different ways to hold the Cue and play good strokes.

Bridge:
A way of constructing an elevation such that u can offer shot at the desired position on the cue ball.

Shot:
The final act of potting a ball with the required power and spin which would place the cue ball such that the next shot would be easy also know as developing the next shot.

[I'll be posting more detailed blogs about the same along with pictures.]
